What rules do I have to abide by?

Student-athletes participating in Clipper athletics will abide by the eligibility rules and regulations of the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Collges (NWAACC) and the rules and policies of the South Puget Sound Community College.

Must I have graduated from high school?

To participate in Clipper intercollegiate sports programs you must be a high school graduate, or the class you would have graduated with must have graduated.

What do I have to do to be eligible to participate?

First-Year Athletes
NWAACC rules require that you enroll in and pass a minimum of 12 credit each quarter of participation. There is no GPA requirement for first-year athletes.
Second-Year Athletes
You must enroll in and pass a minimum of 12 credits each quarter, maintain a 2.0 or better GPA, have passed a minimum of 12 credits during the previous quarter, and have accumulated a minimum of 36 credits or the equivalent begiinning with your first quarter of participation.

What are the eligibility requirements if I am transferring from another college?

Transfer Students From Non-Member Schools
If you participaed in intercollegiate sports at a non-NWAACC member school you must have passed 12 credits or the equivalent, during your previous term, have a 2.0 or better GPA and have accumulated 36 credits from your first quarter of participation.

If you did not participate in intercollegiate sports at a non-NWAACC member school, you may be eligible immediately if you passed a minimum of 12 credits or the equivalent during your previous term.

Transfer Students From NWAACC Member Schools
If you participated in intercollegiate sports at another NWAACC member school, you must sit out for a minimum of three (3) academic quarters exclusive of summer school (Fall, Winter, and Spring) before eligibility will be granted. In addition, you must have completed 12 credits or the equivalent during your previous term, and you must have a 2.0 or better GPA.

If you did not participate in intercollegiate sport at another NWAACC member school, you may be eligible immediately if you passed a minimum of 12 quarter credit hours or their equivalent during your previous term, and your GPA is 2.0 or better.

How many seasons may I participate in a sport?

Student-athletes are allowed two seasons of competition in any sport at the community college level if they have not previously participated at any intercollegiate level. Playing in any portion of any regularly scheduled event or contest counts as a season of participation in that sport.

When does the season begin?

The soccer season begins official practice in mid-August and the first match may be scheduled ten days from the first day of offcial practice. The soccer season runs through early November, with the playoffs and championships scheduled the second and third week of November.

Basketball practice officially begins on the third Monday of October, and the first game may be scheduled on the third Friday of November. The season lasts until the end of February, with playoffs and the championship tournament scheduled in early March.

Fastpitch begins official practice on February 1st and the first game scheduled for early March. The season lasts through mid-may with playoffs and championships scheduled for late May.

When and where do the teams practice?

Teams practice on campus on the soccer and softball fields and in the gymnasium. Practice typically takes place during the late afternoon for soccer and fastpitch and early to late evenings for basketball. Each coach determines thier sport's practice times.

Soccer matches are typically scheduled for Friday (5pm) and Satruday (1pm) with some weekday games (5pm) to accommodate the league schedules. Basketball pre-season games are usually scheduled late afternoon or evenings, the league games are scheduled for Wednesday (6pm/8pm) and Saturday (5pm/7pm) with the women playing first.. What are the requirements for student-athlete transferring to a four year college?

Students planning to transfer to a four year college should familiarize themselves with the transfer rules for both four year intercollegiate organizations: NCAA and NAIA. Generally, if a student meets the NWAACC eligibility requirements and graduates with an associate degree, they will be eligible at a four-year college or university.
